Salary £35 000 - £45 000 (Onsite while on probation, thereafter hybrid working)
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Buyer to join a dynamic team in the food industry. This role focuses on sourcing, negotiating, and procuring food products, ingredients, and packaging materials from both local and international suppliers. You will manage imports, ensure compliance with regulations, and maintain cost-effective and timely supply chains.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Sourcing
- Identify and evaluate suppliers for finished goods, raw materials, and packaging.
- Request and negotiate quotations to achieve competitive pricing and favorable terms.
- Develop sourcing strategies and monitor market trends to inform purchasing decisions.
Supplier Management
- Build strong relationships with suppliers to ensure reliability and continuous improvement.
- Conduct regular performance reviews focusing on quality, cost, and delivery.
Stock Control
- Support inventory management across multiple warehouses.
- Review stock reports, investigate variances, and collaborate with planning teams to maintain optimal levels.
Import Management
- Oversee import processes including purchase orders, shipping, customs documentation, and clearance.
- Ensure compliance with food safety and import regulations.
- Optimise import-related costs such as freight, duty, and insurance.
Cost & Process Control
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and ensure adherence to procurement policies and ethical standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- 1–3 years’ experience in procurement or buying within FMCG or food manufacturing.
- Familiarity with ERP systems
- Good excel skills
