With multiple stores across London and ambitious growth plans, we are looking for a strong, hands-on Store Manager to lead our branch. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced manager from a decorators’ merchant, paint merchant, hardware, DIY, builders’ merchant or trade retail environment who knows how to run a busy store, serve both trade and retail customers, grow sales, and build a high-performing team. This is not a passive management role. We are looking for someone who is commercially switched on, operationally strong, and confident leading from the front every day.
About the Role
As Store Manager, you will have full responsibility for the day-to-day running and overall performance of the branch. You will be expected to drive sales, build customer relationships, maintain high operational standards, manage stock effectively, and create a strong, motivated team culture. You will play a key role in helping Zyber grow its local customer base, strengthen trade relationships, and improve branch performance. This is a role for someone who enjoys ownership, accountability and making things happen.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of the day-to-day running of the branch
- Drive branch sales and profitability through strong leadership and commercial awareness
- Build and grow relationships with local trade customers, contractors, decorators and repeat retail customers
- Proactively develop business in the local area, including opening and growing trade accounts
- Deliver excellent customer service across the shop floor, trade counter, telephone and email
- Lead, manage, coach and motivate the team to deliver strong individual and branch performance
- Ensure high standards of store presentation, product availability, cleanliness and organisation
- Manage stock control, replenishment, ordering and product availability effectively
- Monitor branch performance and work with senior management to improve results
- Lead by example in attitude, work ethic, service standards and problem-solving
- Maintain a safe, efficient and well-run store environment at all times
- Support opening and closing procedures, rota management and day-to-day operational discipline
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for a confident, credible and commercially minded manager who can combine customer service, operations and sales leadership.
Essential
- Previous experience in a decorators’ merchant, paint merchant, hardware, DIY, trade counter or similar retail environment
- Experience managing or supervising a team in a store, branch or trade retail setting
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to drive sales growth
- Experience dealing with both trade professionals and retail customers
- A hands-on management style and willingness to lead from the front
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust with customers and staff
- Good organisation, stock awareness and operational discipline
- Reliable, proactive and results-driven mindset
Highly Desirable
- Paint mixing / tinting experience
- Experience opening trade accounts and developing repeat business
- Knowledge of decorating, paint, hardware or building products
- Experience in a fast-paced independent merchant or trade-led retail business
