Senior Agricultural Underwriter

As part of this continued expansion, the business is looking to appoint a Senior Agricultural Underwriter to join its Specialty Underwriting team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced underwriting professional to take ownership of a diverse agricultural portfolio while contributing to underwriting strategy, broker development and long-term business growth.

Your Roles & Responsibilities:
While in this position your duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Underwriting new and renewal agricultural business in line with underwriting appetite, authority levels and governance requirements
• Assessing, pricing and negotiating complex agricultural and rural risks to achieve profitable underwriting outcomes
• Managing a portfolio of agricultural accounts and monitoring performance against business objectives
• Developing and maintaining strong relationships with regional and national broker partners
• Supporting retention and new business growth through effective broker engagement and business development activity
• Underwriting a range of agricultural and rural exposures including farm property, agricultural machinery and equipment, livestock, rural liabilities and diversified farming operations
• Evaluating complex mid-market agricultural risks and providing tailored underwriting solutions
• Acting as a technical referral point for underwriting colleagues and supporting knowledge sharing across the wider team
• Conducting broker meetings, presentations and market engagement activities to strengthen relationships and enhance market presence
• Collaborating with Risk Engineering, Claims, Actuarial and Distribution teams to deliver comprehensive underwriting solutions
• Contributing to portfolio management initiatives, underwriting strategy and product development projects
• Monitoring agricultural market trends, emerging risks and industry developments
• Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, underwriting controls and internal governance frameworks

What You Will Need to Apply:
The ideal candidate will possess proven underwriting experience within agricultural, rural or specialist commercial insurance markets. A strong technical understanding of agricultural risks and exposures will be essential, alongside experience handling complex and mid-market accounts.
Candidates should demonstrate excellent underwriting judgement, strong analytical capabilities and a proven ability to balance technical risk assessment with commercial growth objectives. Experience developing and managing broker relationships will be highly advantageous, as will a track record of identifying new business opportunities and driving portfolio performance.
Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills are required, together with the ability to work collaboratively across multiple business functions. Professional insurance qualifications, such as ACII, or progress towards achieving them would be beneficial.
Experience gained within a specialist insurer, commercial insurer or London Market environment would be advantageous. Exposure to portfolio management, underwriting performance analysis or mentoring junior underwriters would also be highly regarded.
